We do it for the dogs...

***OUR FEATURED DOG*** Meet Friday, our featured dog. He's such a sweet boy, and he's waited SO long for a home of his own...

Russell Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit national network of volunteers dedicated to placing unwanted or abandoned Jack Russells into permanent homes. We are the Kentucky Chapter.

The goal of Russell Rescue, Inc. is to have this unique hunting terrier be in the protective care of those who thoroughly understand this dog. This is a very unique dog that arrives in any life with a special set of needs not suited to everyone. They get into trouble. If they cannot find trouble, they create it. If bored, they can apply their extreme intelligence in destructive ways. They require an educated owner and a loving caretaker willing to provide what this dog needs to be happy and safe. Most of life with them involves protecting them from themselves and their own demise. They rarely lack courage and don't take to abuse, even accidental abuse...

***** Our Adoption Process *****

The following steps should help you (and us) determine if there is a match between you and one of our terriers in Rescue. All applicants are thoroughly screened and must meet certain qualifications before being referred for a terrier. Approval is based upon the understanding and acceptance of the nature of the terrier, the owner's lifestyle, and their ability to house the dog properly.

Start by reading Bad Dog Talk, which represents the very worst case scenario of owning a JRT....if you're still interested, please consider the following:

*Every applicant must first fill out an adoption form (see below).
*By submitting this application, you are making a formal request to adopt a dog from Russell Rescue, Inc. Please do not fill out this application if you are not serious about working with Russell Rescue, Inc.
*Remember, the more conditions you make (i.e., color, coat type, age, sex and body type), the longer it will take to find a suitable terrier to match your environment.
*If a terrier is matched to your application and placed in your home, you must agree to keep the terrier for at least 3 weeks (to allow time for the terrier and you to acclimate with each other).
*All rescue dogs must have containment (fence, kennel).
*We have few dogs that are good with cats.
*We rarely place terriers of the same sex together in one home (to reduce the risk of fighting).
*We never suggest that JRTs are suitable for metropolitan living.
*We do not suggest placing terriers where the terrier must remain at home alone for extended periods of time.
*All applicants are thoroughly screened and must meet certain qualifications before being referred for a terrier.
*Compatible terriers may not be immediately available; your patience is appreciated.
*Filling out an application does not guarantee that we will place a terrier with you.
*An adoption fee to Russell Rescue, Inc. is required to adopt a terrier, no exceptions!
*Every dog we place is up-to-date on all vaccines, heartworm tested, tested/treated for intestinal parasites, and spayed/neutered.

*The dogs themselves are FREE!...Adoption fees are used solely to cover the expense of services provided to dogs in rescue.

If you have any questions, please email KYRussellRescue@aol.com.

NOTE:
*All dogs in an adopter's household must be up-to-date on immunizations, and be spayed/neutered. We do not place rescue dogs in homes with unaltered (unspayed/unneutered) dogs.
* We DO check vet & landlord references, 100% of the time.
* We ONLY place dogs in homes with proper containment (fence, kennel, etc.) or with an owner who agrees to take a dog out on a leash 100% of the time.
